Each race being typical of its three fundamental physiological
transformations. The first is white (moon-coloured); the second is yellow; the third, red-brown; the fourth, in which are
only two faces -- the third face being left a blank -- (a reference to the untimely end of the Atlanteans) is brown-black.

To avoid confusion, let the reader remember that the
term Root-Race applies to one of the seven great Races, sub-Race to one of its great Branches, and Family-Race to one of the
sub-divisions, which include nations and large tribes. The little tribes, shoots, and offshoots of the last-named are
countless and depend on Karmic action. SD. HPB.
Root-race. The Secret Doctrine teaches us that in this
evolution or Round on this planet the Jivatma - the human soul - passes through seven main types or "root-races".
In the case of the two earliest of these, known as
the "Adamic" and the "Hyperborean," the forms ensouled were astral and etheric respectively: "huge and indefinite" they were
with a low state or outward-going consciousness exercised through the one sense (hearing) possessed by the first race, or
through the two senses (hearing and touch) possessed by the second.
But with the third race the Lemurian, a denser and
more human type was evolved, this being perfected in the fourth or Atlantean race.
The fifth or Caucasian races:
The fifth race, the Aryan, is now running its course
on this globe concurrently with a large part of the fourth race and a few remnants of the third. For it must be noted that,
although each race gives birth to the succeeding race, the two will overlap in time, coexisting for many ages.
The majority of mankind belongs to the seventh sub-race
of the Fourth Root-Race. Of existing peoples the Tartars, Chinese, and Mongolians [ The Red Indians, Malayans, Tibetans,
Hungarians, Finns, Javanese and even the Esquimaux belong to the fourth race, SD. ML. HPB.], the Australian aborigines and

The Malays and Papuans are a mixed stock, resulting
from the intermarriages of the low Atlantean sub-races with the Seventh sub-race of the Third Root-Race. Like the Hottentots,
they are of indirect Lemuro-Atlantean descent. SD. HPB.
There is in the Malay race (a sub-race of the Fourth
Root Race) a singular diversity of stature; the members of the Polynesian family (Tahitians, Samoans, and Tonga islanders)
are of a higher stature than the rest of mankind; but the Indian tribes and the inhabitants of the Indo-Chinese countries
are decidedly below the general average. This is easily explained. The Polynesians belong to the very earliest of the surviving
sub-races, the others to the very last and transitory stock. As the Tasmanians are now completely extinct, and the Australians
rapidly dying out, so will the other old races soon follow. SD. HPB.
The dying out of the Hawaiians, for instance, is one
of the most mysterious problems of the day. Ethnology will sooner or later have to recognize with Occultists that the true
solution has to be sought for in a comprehension of the workings of Karma. As Lefevre remarks, "the time is drawing near when
there will remain nothing but three great human types" (before the Sixth Root-Race dawns), the white (Aryan, Fifth Root-Race),
the yellow, and the African negro -- with their crossings (Atlanto-European divisions). Redskins, Eskimos, Papuans, Australians,
Polynesians, etc., etc. -- all are dying out. Those who realize that every Root-Race runs through a gamut of seven sub-races
with seven branchlets, etc., will understand the "why." The tide-wave of incarnating EGOS has rolled past them to harvest
experience in more developed and less senile stocks; and their extinction is hence a Karmic necessity. SD. HPB.
The Pelasgians were certainly one of the root-races
of future Greece, and were a remnant of a sub-race of Atlantis. SD. HPB.
As stated in "Esoteric Buddhism," the Egyptians, as
well as the Greeks and "Romans" some thousand years ago, were "remnants of the Atlanto-Aryans," i.e., the former, of the older,
or the Ruta Atlanteans; the last-named, the descendants of the last race of that island, whose sudden disappearance was narrated
to Solon by the Egyptian Initiates. SD. HPB.
You now ask me a direct question, and, I answer it.
Greeks and Romans were small sub-races, and Egyptians part and parcel of our own "Caucasian" stock. Mahatma Letters.
The earliest Egyptians had been separated from the
latest Atlanteans for ages upon ages; they were themselves descended from an alien race, and had settled in Egypt some 400,000
years before, but their Initiates had preserved all the records. SD. HPB.
Three great nations claimed in antiquity a direct descent
from the kingdom of Saturn or Lemuria (confused already several thousands of years before our era with Atlantis): and these
were the Egyptians, the Phoenicians (Vide Sanchoniathon), and the old Greeks (Vide Diodorus, after Plato). But the oldest
civilized country of Asia -- India -- can be shown to claim the same descent likewise. SD. HPB.
The little Semitic tribe -- one of the smallest branchlets
from the commingling of the 4th and 5th sub-races (the Mongolo-Turanian and the Indo-European, so-called, after the sinking
of the great Continent) Secret Doctrine. HPB.
The Aryan Hindu belongs to the oldest races now on
earth; the Semite Hebrew to the latest. One is nearly one million years old; the other is a small sub-race some 8,000 years
old and no more. SD. HPB.
See the remnants of the Atlanteans, -- the old Greeks
and Romans (the modern belong all to the fifth Race); see how great and how short, how evanescent were their days of fame
and glory! For, they were but sub-races of the seven off-shoots of the "root race." Mahatma Letters.
The Greeks were but the dwarfed and weak remnant of
that once glorious nation. SD. HPB.
What was this nation? [Asia] The secret doctrine teaches
that it was the latest, seventh sub-race of the Atlanteans, already swallowed up in one of the early sub-races of the Aryan
stock, one that had been gradually spreading over the continent and islands of Europe, as soon as they had begun to emerge
from the seas.
Descending from the high plateaux of Asia, where the
two Races had sought refuge in the days of the agony of Atlantis, it had been slowly settling and colonizing the freshly emerged
lands. The emigrant sub-race had rapidly increased and multiplied on that virgin soil; had divided into many families, which
in their turn divided into nations. Egypt and Greece, the Phoenicians, and the Northern stocks, had thus proceeded from that
one sub-race. SD. HPB.
These five signs are of major conditioning importance
and may be enumerated as follows:
Cancer
Leo
Scorpio
Capricorn
Pisces
These five signs are related in the planetary sense to the five great races of which our
present race, the Aryan, is the fifth. These five races, under the influence of the five signs, produce the externalizations
which are called the five continents - Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia, America. These five continents are to the planetary

The forthcoming 6th Sub Race -- which may begin very
soon -- will be in its Satya (golden) age while we reap the fruit of our iniquity in our Kali Yuga. SD. HPB.
A number of gifted intellects, great souls, are now
in incarnation, through whom the Lodge is working to bring about these changes in the vegetable and human kingdoms. The particular
group of souls of which I speak came into incarnation between fifty and
seventy five years ago. Their individual efforts will cease inside of the next twenty-five years, during
which time the culmination of their work will appear in a new sub-race of both the

THE COMING NEW RACE. Since the beginning of the Atlantean
Race many million years have passed, yet we find the last of the Atlanteans, still mixed up with the Aryan element, 11,000
years ago. This shows the enormous overlapping of one race over the race which succeeds it, though in character and external
type the elder loses its characteristics, and assumes the new features of the younger race. This is proved in all the formations
of mixed human races. Now, Occult philosophy teaches that even now, under our very eyes, the new Race and Races are preparing
to be formed, and that it is in America that the transformation will take place, and has already silently commenced.
Pure Anglo-Saxons hardly three hundred years ago, the
Americans of the United States have already become a nation apart, and, owing to a strong admixture of various nationalities
and inter-marriage, almost a race sui generis, not only mentally, but also physically. "Every mixed race, when uniform and
settled, has been able to play the part of a primary race in fresh crossings," says de Quatrefages. "Mankind, in its present
state, has thus been formed, certainly, for the greatest part, by the successive crossing of a number of races at present
undetermined"
Thus the Americans have become in only three centuries
a "primary race," pro tem., before becoming a race apart, and strongly separated from all other now existing races. They are,
in short, the germs of the Sixth sub-race, and in some few hundred years more, will become most decidedly the pioneers of
that race which must succeed to the present European or fifth sub-race, in all its new characteristics. SDII.

Knowing all this, loving my
people as a father his children, forced to see them sink into nothingness among nations, realizing
that their only hope lies in the Anglo-Saxon race now incarnated in
America . for from it a great karmic debt is due . is it surprising that I should take some interest in
the affairs of that nation, even to identifying myself in a measure with it ? Yet the
ignorant, the self . blinded, can neither see the danger which threatens themselves,
nor the crying need of the Aryan race, nor understand my motives in striving to draw closer together

There are now evolving in
the Chinese nation and in America certain progenitors of the new Sixth Race. Both the white
and yellow races are now on the upward arc of the present cycle of manifestation. The White race turned the lowest point of
the arc several hundred years ago, while the Yellow race passed the same point within the memory of the present generation.
Prejudice against intermarriage between these two races will gradually die
out as time passes, and by the close of another short cycle, the first
children of the first sub-race of the Sixth Race will be born as a result of intermarriage
between the before mentioned progenitors of the new Race, now appearing in the White and Yellow races.

And now regarding your question about the Sixth Race.
Yes, in many Theosophical books, even in The Secret Doctrine, we find the indication that the Sixth Race is gathering in America.
But precisely in The Secret Doctrine I encountered a contradiction. In one place it is mentioned that it is in America that
the sixth sub-race of the Fifth Race is commencing to be formed, while in another part it is given as the Sixth Race. Certainly,
there is a vast difference between the concept of a sub-race and that of a root race. One should also take into consideration
the possibility of a misprint. At the birth of America the majority of migrants belonged to the sixth and even the seventh
sub-race of the Fifth Race. It is rather remarkable that no one pays any attention to the strange fact that almost nowhere
in Theosophical literature is our country mentioned, as if a sixth part of the world had no place in the cosmic
plan and in evolution. Almost no one asks, "Why is this and what is the reason for it?"
I will answer, That which is secret is carefully guarded,
and if it were announced prematurely that his country has a great future, it would be torn to pieces. Moreover, the Teaching
of the Secret Doctrine would not have been accepted. As for the sixth Race, those single individuals who belong to it are
indeed born in all countries, and at the proper time the majority of them will be assembled in the principal and safe place.
Just as the seeds of the Fifth Race were saved, so, also, the seeds of the Sixth will be safeguarded. LHRII. Master

It has been denied that the prophesied Golden age -
the Satya age - the age in which the Sixth Root Race will appear, could by any possibility be so close at hand as has been
claimed by some writers, as such a long time must elapse before the close of the Kali Yuga. It would appear that such disputants
might have forgotten or never knew that there must be a Satya cycle in the Kali Yuga, just as there must be sub-races of the
Sixth Root Race - the progenitors of which must appear in the Satya cycle of the Kali Yuga for all root races overlap each
other by many thousands of years. In fact there are Third Root Race men and those in the early sub-races of the Fourth Root
Race in strange places on the earth even to this day. (Theogenesis - the final book in the series of the Teachings of
the Temple -Halcyon, California 1981).
It is the office held by the Regent of the Red Ray,
Who is a Dhyan Chohan, a Kumara known in this age as Hilarion. He is, in short, the Manu of the Sixth Race. And this One must
not be confused with the "Hilarion" about whom much has been written from other sources. The line of the Regent of the Red
Ray comes into the West through Egypt and Palestine, and runs through certain centers in Europe into America, where he appeared
as Hiawatha about 600 years ago for a definite preparatory work for the coming western races. FLD. TT.
Remember, you belong to the fifth Race, yet you are
but a Western sub-race. Notwithstanding your efforts, what you call civilization is confined only to the latter and its off-shoots

What do you know of America, for instance, before the
invasion of that country by the Spaniards? Less than two centuries prior to the arrival of Cortez there was as great a "rush"
towards progress among the sub-races of Peru and Mexico as there is now in Europe and the U.S.A. Mahatma Letters.
The United States, though one of the younger nations,
is - owing to the many racial types represented - one of the oldest; this curious balancing must inevitably lead to a rapid
development, with a consequent assumption of power, a growing incentive to love and a shouldering of responsibility.

A world in which the United States proves itself to
be the controlling factor, after wiping out Russia, which she can well do if she acts now. It will be a predominantly capitalistic
world, run by several nations but headed by the United States. A capitalistic nation is not necessarily wrong; capital has
its place, and Russia (the enemy of capitalism) is by no means free from capitalistic bias. Problems Of Humanity.

Hence the conflicts everywhere to be found between the varying ideologies and the major conflict between those who
stand for the great ideal of world unity brought about by a united effort of the Forces of Light, backed by the cooperative
effort of all the democratic nations and the separative materialistic attitude of those who seek to keep the United States
from assuming her responsibilities and her rightful place in world affairs. This latter group, if they succeed in their endeavor,
will deny the United States her share in the "gifts of the gods in the coming age of peace which will succeed this present
point of critical suspension," as the Old Commentary phrases it. The sixth ray is either militant and active, or mystical
pacific and at present futile, and these two aspects at present condition the United States. EA 532 DK.
